Course Introduction

This live online interactive insurance webinar is designed for delegates, who have some experience of Contractors’ Liability Insurance and wish to expand and/or refresh their knowledge in this area.

The course will be highly interactive with delegate participation and engagement throughout. This half day course consists of two 90-minute online sessions with a 15-minute break.

The course is delivered by a Certified Online Learning Facilitator (COLF) who is a Chartered Insurance Broker with over 40 years insurance experience.

Course Objectives

Delegates who successfully complete this course will be able to: –

  • Explain the difference between contractual obligations and insurance requirements
  • Describe the content of the insurance clauses within the JCT contract relating to liability risks.
  • Explain why non-negligence cover may be required and how insurers meet this need
  • Describe the standard structure and content of contractor’s liability insurance policies, including standard extensions and exclusions
  • Describe the underwriting process and the information insurers require to assess and price risks

Course Content

  • The legal environment for contractors – common law/tort, statutory, contract
  • Health & Safety legislation including the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015
  • Liability insurance content of common contract forms – JCT Standard, Intermediate and Minor Works
  • Non-negligence cover – what is required and why
  • Usual liability policy wordings for contractors – EL, PL, basic cover, exclusions, common extensions
